It is currently being renovated and restored to its former glory.

If you love gardening and all things horticultural then the Alford and District Allotments and Garden Association is a must! Founded 1919 as the Alford and District Allotments and Gardens Association, the Alford and District Horticultural Society holds social events every month. This is a great opportunity to socialise with like-minded people, have an evening supper and listen to a guest speaker. The Coffee Morning and Plant Sale is very popular and is held on May Bank Holiday every year. If you have a competitive streak then the Annual Show in August will be a firm fixture in your diary. It attracts a lot of attention from beginners to the more experienced.
Alford Manor House and Museum of Rural Life is wholly owned by Alford and District Civic Trust and run solely by volunteers. The trust is overseen by a board of Directors, who are also volunteers.
The Museum is fully accredited and hosts many exhibitions.
The House and Marquee are available for all private functions.
The gardens are historically set out and have a wealth of Lincolnshire planting.
The Manor House boasts a Tea Room, where refreshments are served and volunteers are on hand to answer any questions you may have.
New volunteers are always welcome to join and there is full range of volunteering opportunities to suit all ages and abilities from serving in the Tea Room or front of house, to gardening and conservation.
You can commit as little or as much time you have to give and you will be most welcome.
Volunteering at the Manor House is an amazing opportunity to play a little part in preserving an iconic part of history for future generations.
“Alford in Bloom” was established around 5 years ago with Christina Melaugh successfully taking on the contract with Alford Town Council to supply and maintain the floral displays around the town.
Christina’s aim was to demonstrate that Alford could have the best display of flowers, but also to be environmentally responsible.
The “Bloom” team is a voluntary group of people united by their wish to make Alford a better place. Projects have been achieved with litter picking, planting of wild flowers, supporting the Purple for Polio campaign by planting purple crocuses in public areas, and introducing local groups to the benefits of growing and displaying their own floral arrangements. Alford in Bloom has also entered the prestigious RHS East Midlands in Bloom competition, which is held annually – and we have received high accolade for our efforts.
The floral displays have followed various themes – Paint the Town Red – Wild at Heart – On ya Bike…and Come to Alford.
Initially with the help of some mice – we had the Great Alford Mouse Trail – which supported the floral displays and had a great following with children (and adults) and of course being supported by the local residents, businesses and schools. We were invaded by Pirate mice who came to Alford on holiday, and then by Mungo and the mice from Mars.
Alford in Bloom will continue to be a success – due to the enthusiasm of all the volunteers, and of course the support we get from Alford Town Council, the local businesses, schools and residents.
